Divisions.
We see so much of it these days. Division. Us versus them. Right versus Left. Wealthy versus poor. Race versus race. Ethnic groups versus each other.
Throughout our cultures and countries some have a strong desire to divide and tear apart rather than bring together. There are people and forces that seek to divide us for greed or power. Some seek to divide us out of fear disguised as hatred. Some out of ignorance.
Who benefits from this divide and conquer approach? Who wants our countries and our cultures to be divided? What is the end game?
Regardless of who or why, our lives are being weaponized against us and each other.
And we are the only ones who can stop it.
Common Ground.
This past weekend was busy as I caught up on life. I met a few people over the course of a few days. A very helpful bank clerk, a helpful grocery clerk, a waiter with a shy smile, a few helpful drivers, and one very happy bus driver crossed my path.
Each one of them offered something that enhanced the moment or my experience. Some were helpful at their jobs. Some were kind and talkative. Some opened up and showed me themselves. One of them shared their dreams and wishes. All of them offered bright smiles and kind souls.
When politics came up, I could tell that some were on the other end of the spectrum from me. Neither of us shared details, but we respected our differences. Quickly the conversation shifted toward things we had in common. Where we lived, what we liked to do, and what we liked to eat. There was far more common ground than there were differences.
We all have lives. We have jobs, families, relationships, and pets. We have hobbies and interests. We all have challenges. We all experience ups and downs in our lives. We all seek to be seen and heard.
The individual circumstances are unique, but we all experience life. When you think about our day to day lives, we are far more alike than we are different. We have so many more things in common than we have differences.
It is only in our minds that we perceive we are different. It is our ego-mind or lies we tell ourselves that create division. The lies we are told by those who seek to divide us create more perceived differences than actually exist.
We are all human. Each one of us has a soul. All of us are made of the same stuff as the rest of the universe. We are an expression of the Divine in human form. We are one.
Oneness.
In all my interactions this weekend, no one expressed animosity. We shared smiles, laughs, stories about our lives, our challenges, and a few dinner ideas. No one, not even those who were politically different from me, expressed anything other than human kindness. It reminded me that we are more alike than we are different.
The forces that seek to separate and divide us are human beings. Those who seek to do us harm are human beings. We are all human beings. We are all souls having a human experience. With all the challenges, pain, love, and joy that comes with it.
We do not have to condone the behavior of those who seek to do us harm. But we must acknowledge that they are human beings. Part of the human collective. Part of the Oneness.
It is our connection with ourselves and our connection with each other that create the patchwork of humanity. When we choose to honor humanity and our collective we are choosing one and all. We are choosing Oneness.
Instead of allowing some to divide us, we can choose humanity. We can choose Oneness over hatred and division. We can choose to honor the Oneness and serve the greater good.
May we all reject division and hatred.
May we all choose humanity.
May we all choose love over hate.
May we all choose Oneness.
