I heard it said recently that our faith is the food of our soul. That resonated because it is true for me. It also inspired me to consider, is the nourishing of our soul also purpose?
We all have ways of feeding our soul. Our spiritual practices, our faith, is certainly soul food. Our emotional state, healthy relationships, our joy and our love, feeds our soul. The material things we do, fulfilling our purposes, and how we move through the world can also feed our soul.
When we broaden the perspective a little further, we can view the food of our soul as purposeful. Meaning that nourishing our soul can be viewed as one of our purposes.
Spiritually.
Our spiritual lives are often guided by our soul. Our awakening processes were known by our soul before we were born. The path, our life, was chosen by our soul. Walking the path is a purpose fulfilled.
From that perspective it only makes sense that our faith and how we express it is food for our soul. Aligning with the path our soul chose, either through awareness or intention, is nourishing our soul and our path.
Emotionally.
Our emotional state weighs down or lifts up our soul. When we are feeding our joy we are feeding our soul. That doesn’t mean we must always be in a high vibrational frequency. That’s not healthy or possible. It means that we can be conscious of our emotions and the impact on our soul.
We honor our emotional needs when we remember to allow our emotions. Allow the healing process. Allow our emotions to flow in and out. Allow our emotions to be what they are without judgment. Express gratitude for having emotions and being mindful of them. Honoring our emotions as part of our soul’s purpose and path. It is also food for our soul and often purposeful.
Materially.
What we do and how we move through the world can feed our soul if we choose it. Our material lives, our health, families, homes, and financial lives are part of our soul’s path. By setting the intention to be in alignment with our soul’s path our material life will change in order fulfill our purposes.
Another way to think of it is the energy we are putting out into the world. Is it aligned with our soul’s purposes? Which aren’t always love and light. Sometimes our purpose is to inspire or make people think in a different way. Sometimes we are meant to shake up the system.
About Purpose.
Feeding our souls allows us to experience and discover our soul’s purposes. The nourishment aligns us with our soul and carries us forward to experience more of our purposes. Our lives are nourished from our connection with our soul and it adds to our wholeness and fulfillment.
When we consider if we are nourishing our soul, one thing to consider is the impact on others. Are we moving forward with love? Are we moving forward for the greater good?
Our souls and our purposes are about lovingkindness, educating, inspiring, enlightening, uplifting, expanding consciousness, working for the common good, fighting for justice, serving the collective, and so much more. The point is, our soul’s purpose is about putting more love into the world.
There is no purpose in causing harm to others. There is no purpose in victimizing. There is no purpose in hoarding wealth. They are not the soul’s purpose. They are of the ego, not of the soul.
There are as many purposes as there are souls. Each of us has many purposes. When they are woven together they create an extraordinary and soulful human experience. Feeding our soul is purposeful.
Seeking Purpose?
I share the practices and things I did that led me to fulfilling my soul’s purposes in the Finding Your Soul’s Purpose blog series.
We learn how to connect with our soul, realize our purposes, and fulfill them. It’s likely we already have fulfilled some of our purposes without realizing it.
