There are times in our spiritual awakening process when life intrudes in a meaningful way. Life’s challenges take over and consume our awareness and energy. Without noticing we put our spiritual lives on the back burner. Our awakening process cools and changes, but it continues in another form.
Yesterday evening, I made a meal that I saw on social media. Pizza beans. I was well prepped and ready to go. I had only gone as far as sautéing onions when interruptions began. Suddenly I was pulled in a few different directions.
I tried to balance cooking, with care giving, with feeding the cat. Some things were backburnered but it eventually all got done. The pressure was dialed up as everything seemed to be happening at once. But then it all came together, including dinner.
It is in those moments in our busy lives that our spiritual lives get placed on the back burner. Set aside unintentionally but in a sincere effort to create space or find balance. Either way, we adjust our lives - spiritually, emotionally, materially.
But what happens to our spiritual awakening when life changes significantly? What happens when life takes over and we struggle to connect spiritually, or we have limited time for ourselves? What happens when life pulls us away from our spiritual awakening?
When I experienced cancer, my spiritual awakening paused for weeks, maybe months. My stress was tempered by my mindfulness training, but still elevated. My focus was self-care and healing from cancer. My spiritual awakening faded into the background.
When I realized that my spiritual life had faded, I wondered if it would return. I thought my spiritual awakening had paused. Five years later, and with new life challenges, I realize that our spiritual awakenings don’t “end” they just take another form.
Sometimes our process slows down. The cycles of healing and growth may slow or pause. Sometimes our process changes directions to accommodate our daily needs. Sometimes Spirit supports us differently and for our current needs.
There are times in our lives when our spiritual and emotional lives are overtaken by our material life. But our awakenings never stop, and Spirit is always there. Our spiritual awakening processes continue. They heat up and cool down to accommodate the flow of our lives.
Our awakening process shifts or changes to meet our changing needs. The love, support, protection, and guidance that is provided adapts to meet us where we are. We receive what we need to support our spiritual awakening and all of our soul’s purposes.
Our spiritual awakening is a co-created process with the best partner we could ask for. One that sees us, knows us, and what we need. One that holds space for us and carries us through. A partner that knows the path forward - Spirit and soul.
Whether we are fully engaged in our spiritual paths, or we are focused on other areas of our lives, our awakenings continue. Spirit and soul adapt to our frequency and our challenges.
My life has taken a number of twists and turns in recent weeks. The path that I thought I was on changed. My future seems even more unsure than it has been. My spiritual awakening has shifted and it continues to move forward.
Spirit is supporting me in ways that are serving my expanded needs. My spiritual awakening continues and it requires less of me and yet we are moving forward. It continues in the background and in the quiet moments. It also has taken on a different tone. Still one of love, support, protection, and guidance, but with adapted priorities.
Our awakening process, like our energy, and our lives is changeable. Unexpected and unfortunate events occur in our lives and everything can change in a moment. All of it adjusts to our needs and energy levels.
Our spiritual awakenings adapt and adjust just as we do through all of life’s challenges. Whether it is a pause, a shift, or other changes, it will be what we need. Spirit and soul know us, our path, and process. All is working in our favor.
